Sturgis Kitchen Remodeling

Sturgis kitchens cook, host Rally-week guests, take hard daily use from vacation-rental turnovers, and have to look right in listing photos. We build kitchens that do all of that and still feel like home to the people who actually live there.

KITCHEN REMODELING IN STURGIS

A Sturgis Kitchen Has to Do More Than Most

The Sturgis kitchen has more roles than the average Midwestern kitchen. It is the daily cooking and family space, the August-Rally hosting hub where eight extra people show up for breakfast, and (in a growing share of homes) the rental-listing centerpiece that guests judge a property by before they book. A good Sturgis kitchen remodel solves for all three at once instead of forcing the homeowner to pick.

Bruce Miller and the Black Hills Premier Interiors crew approach Sturgis kitchen remodels like we approach Sturgis bathrooms — by walking the room with the owner, listening to how the kitchen actually gets used, and building from there. A kitchen that hosts a Christmas dinner for 14 once a year is different from a kitchen that turns over to new short-term-rental guests every five days. We design and specify for the actual use, not the magazine version of it.

Across Sturgis we see three kitchen housing patterns: 1950s-1970s ranches with closed galley kitchens that homeowners want opened up, 1990s-2000s tract builds with adequate footprints that need cabinet and counter upgrades, and historic downtown homes with kitchens that need full rebuilds while respecting the original character. We have done all three, often multiple times, and the approach is dialed in for each.

Three Sturgis Kitchen Remodel Patterns

Open-Concept Kitchen Conversion

The most-requested Sturgis remodel scope. Remove a non-load-bearing wall (or engineer a beam to span a load-bearing one), open the kitchen into the dining or living room, install an island that anchors the new space, and rework cabinet and counter layouts to take advantage of the new sight lines. Timeline 6 to 10 weeks. Best for ranch and split-level homes built before 1990.

Cabinet, Counter, and Appliance Refresh

Existing footprint stays, but cabinets get replaced or refaced, counters become quartz or stone, the sink and faucet get upgraded, and new appliances slot in. Often paired with new lighting and a tile backsplash. Timeline 3 to 5 weeks. Best for 1990s and 2000s Sturgis homes where the layout already works and just looks dated.

Vacation Rental Durability Build

Specialized scope for short-term-rental properties. Hardwearing finishes (quartz counters, porcelain tile floor, semi-custom plywood-box cabinets with solid-wood fronts), commercial-grade fixtures, easy-clean surfaces, two-handle faucets that survive aggressive guests, and a layout optimized for listing photos. Timeline 4 to 6 weeks. Built to survive 200+ guest stays per year.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Sturgis Kitchen Remodeling FAQ

How long does a Sturgis kitchen remodel take?

A cabinet-and-counter refresh runs 3 to 5 weeks. A full layout remodel without structural work runs 5 to 7 weeks. An open-concept conversion with a structural beam runs 8 to 12 weeks. We do not start until cabinets and major materials are on-site so the kitchen does not sit half-finished.

What does a Sturgis kitchen remodel cost in 2026?

A refresh runs $22,000 to $40,000. A standard full kitchen remodel runs $40,000 to $75,000. A large open-concept remodel with structural changes, premium cabinets, and high-end appliances runs $75,000 to $150,000+. Bruce writes a line-itemed quote after the in-home consultation.

How long is the kitchen unusable during the remodel?

The kitchen is generally out of commission for 3 to 6 weeks, depending on scope. We coordinate with you to set up a temporary kitchen elsewhere in the home: a microwave, mini-fridge, coffee bar, and dish station. Most Sturgis homeowners survive on the temporary kitchen plus more take-out than usual.

Can we open up our 1970s Sturgis ranch into a great room?

Almost always yes. We engineer the structural beam, get the permit, and run the remodel. Some load-bearing wall removals require a structural engineer’s stamp for the beam sizing, which we coordinate. Sturgis ranches generally have either truss roofs or post-and-beam framing that span large openings cleanly once engineered.

What countertop holds up best in a Sturgis vacation rental kitchen?

Quartz, every time. Granite is fine but needs to be sealed periodically (vacation-rental hosts forget). Quartz is non-porous, stain-resistant, heat-tolerant within reason, and survives short-term-rental abuse better than any other natural-or-engineered stone option. We have specified quartz on every Sturgis vacation-rental kitchen build for the last 5 years.

Do you do kitchen remodels in vacation rental homes around Rally?

Yes. We schedule rental-property kitchen remodels in the October-to-June off-season so the home is ready before the next Rally booking window. Some hosts prefer the work in the May-June shoulder so the kitchen is freshly photographed for the Rally listing.
