Tear-Out and Subfloor Prep
Existing flooring is removed cleanly and hauled away. Subfloors are inspected for damage, flatness, and moisture. Slabs are tested with calcium chloride or RH probes. Squeaks are screwed down, low spots are leveled with self-leveling compound, and any damaged subfloor panels are replaced.
Underlayment, Install, and Heat
Moisture barriers, cork or foam underlayment, cement board, or uncoupling membranes go down based on the flooring type. Heated floor mats are installed and tested if specified. Hardwood is acclimated to the home for 5 to 14 days before install to prevent seasonal cupping.
Transitions, Trim, and Walkthrough

Can you install heated floors under existing tile?
Not without replacing the tile. Heated floor systems go directly under the tile on top of cement board or an uncoupling membrane, not above the tile. However, if you are already planning to replace a tile floor, adding electric radiant heat at the same time adds only a modest cost because the labor is largely shared with the new tile install. We have retrofitted heated floors into dozens of bathrooms and mudrooms in Rapid City this way — the moment people feel a warm floor on a January morning, they wonder why they waited so long.
Do you install flooring over concrete slabs and in basements?
Yes — and this is where prep work becomes critical. Concrete slabs transmit moisture upward year-round, which will destroy laminate, engineered wood, or solid hardwood if not properly barriered.
